I'm addicted to buying cookery books.
Yesterday in my local discount book store I bought books on sauces, chopping techniques, soups and cookies & cupcakes. I have a designated bookcase just for cookery books but this may need to be increased as it's a little under pressure for space. I love the dirty sticky, crusty pages of my most used recipes and consider these the laughter lines of cookery books. My books and I have laughed a lot.
Cooking is so personal, everyone likes different things. To me there are only 3 types of inedible foods; cremation type burning (some even attempt to pass this off as 'well done', yes I'm talking about you Mum...), over salted (I like salty but I mean the make you gag kind) & fluffy or furry (still talking about you Mum). Other than those 3 deal breakers I think most things are edible if not possibly enjoyable.
If you eat whats considerd the norm of 3 meals a day, and there's 365 days in an average year that is (need to get a calculator...) that's 1,095 meals a year to cook - if you really wanted.
My point in all this is that given my 3 major no-nos and the amount of opportunity for practice, allowing for job, family, life, etc I think we should all take the pressure off ourselves to be perfect cooks and just enjoy making something to eat every now and then when we feel inspired, and you never know it might be nice to eat too!
Or you could just buy the cookery books and enjoy the pictures while your chicken ding is in the microwave.
